Residencies

DOKS – Dance Across Borders is a labor market initiative based on cross-border collaboration between Rum för Dans (Halland, Sweden), Bora Bora (Aarhus, Denmark), and Bærum Kulturhus – Dans Sørøst (Sandvika, Norway). Through residencies, networking, and knowledge sharing, DOKS aims to strengthen the labor market for the entire professional dance field in the Nordic region—from dancers and choreographers to technicians, producers, sound designers, scenographers, and dramaturgs.

The DOKS residency program is for professional artists and creative practitioners seeking more than a typical residency: it should serve as a springboard for new inspiration, collaboration, and development—across countries, cultures, and experiences. Therefore, applicants are required to apply for a residency in a Nordic country other than their home country. The program is open to all dance genres in a performing arts format, including both large and small productions, as well as projects that are in the early stages or approaching a premiere.

During the residency, you will have the opportunity to test your ideas, develop projects, and collaborate with other professional artists in new contexts. Below you will find practical information about who can apply, the selection criteria, residency periods, and what is offered during the stay.

Use the menu to explore the different sections and see how a DOKS residency can become a springboard for your project.

To make it easier for you to prepare for your application, we have compiled all the questions into a PDF.

Application form opens 1 April 2026
Application deadline is 29 April 2026, 13:00 CET

1. Information
The application can be submitted in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, or English.

Processing of Information:
By submitting your application, you consent to DOKS storing the information you provide in order to contact you regarding the residency. All documents and personal data will be deleted after the conclusion of the project (end of 2028).

Use of Submitted Material:
All information and videos are used exclusively for DOKS’ internal selection process. Photographs may only be used externally if you are selected, appearing in communications by DOKS and its partners (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, website, newsletters).

2. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply, all of the following criteria must be met:
  • Applicants may submit a professional dance-related artistic development project, with participants including professional dancers, producers, sound and lighting designers, dramaturgs, musicians, directors, or similar roles.
  • “Professional” is defined as holding a bachelor’s degree or higher in the relevant field, or earning the majority of one’s income from the discipline.
  • The project can be an artistic development process, an early-stage dance production, or a production in progress.
  • Applicants must have a connection to and be actively working in the Øresund–Kattegat–Skagerrak region. This may include:
    • residing in the region,
    • working in the region, or
    • maintaining an active professional affiliation in the region, even if living outside it.

DOKS gives priority to applicants from the Kattegat–Skagerrak region.
  • Applicants must have an organization number / CVR number.
  • Applicants must explain how the residency will strengthen their professional connection to the dance sector in the region.
  • Applicants from disciplines outside dance are welcome, provided the project:
    • contributes relevant expertise to the dance sector, and/or
    • expands the applicant’s artistic work within the region.
  • Each applicant may submit only one project but may participate in multiple projects led by others.
  • Each applicant must provide a link to a video directly related to the project they are applying with, or a video that presents their artistic practice. The video must be a continuous recording with a duration of several minutes. A teaser alone is not sufficient for evaluating the applicant.
  • The residency must take place in a country other than the applicant’s primary country of affiliation.
  • Multiple residency periods can be applied for.
  • Applicants must participate for the full residency period (2 weeks / 10 working days).
  • Remote participation is not permitted — physical presence at the residency location is required.
  • Applicants who were awarded a residency in 2026 cannot apply for a residency for 2027–28.
  • Danish artists or artists based in Denmark who have already had a residency at Bora Bora Residency Centre more than once during the period 2023–27 cannot apply to the DOKS open call.

Applicants will receive a response during July 2026.
